Today, I want to talk about the Manduka Unisex PRO Squared Yoga Mat. Yes, it’s more than a little pricey, I realize. But, if you’re looking for a high-quality mat, this one certainly fits the description. Keep reading, to learn more about it.

Size

This mat is huge and by huge I mean big enough for two people. It provides almost 40 square feet of practice space. In the words of the manufacturer, “plenty of room to roam.” The actual dimensions are 78″ by 78″ by ¼”(6mm). Size-wise it’s larger than some area rugs. Thickness-wise it compares to two standard mats put together, one on top of the other.

Material

This is NOT a cheap knock-off product! In fact, the mat is so well constructed, it’s the preferred choice of a growing number of yoga instructors. For all intents and purposes, it’s a larger version of the Manduka Mat PRO Yoga and Pilates Mat.

It’s completely latex free, which means you can still use it if you happen to have latex sensitivities. The mat is slip-resistant, on both sides. So, it’s suitable to use on carpet or hardwood floors. If your floors are linoleum, that’s o.k. too.

If you’re concerned about the environment, rest assured Manduka adheres to emissions-free manufacturing. Zero-waste… not to mention being kind to Mother Nature, is a very high priority.
Regardless of where you use the Manduka PRO Squared, you’re still privy to all the stability you need to practice the most difficult poses. There’s no need to worry about slipping and sliding, even when the mat gets wet.

The major downfall of many less expensive yoga mats is comfort. There just isn’t enough “cushion” to protect knees, elbows and hips. It usually only takes a few minutes to start feeling the pain. This generally isn’t an issue, with mats manufactured by Manduka.

Cleaning

Obviously, it’s important to keep your yoga mat clean. You have the option of purchasing ready-made cleaner or making your own. If you want to make your own, it’s easy to accomplish simply by mixing together equal parts of water and cider vinegar. Pour mixture in a spray bottle and spray the mat quite liberally. Dry mat completely, with a soft cloth.

If you take a few minutes to read some of the reviews of this yoga mat, you’ll see it being referred to as the “Taj Mahal” of yoga mats. In this case, I think I have to agree.

One reviewer mentioned the mat bunches up a little bit during P90X workouts. However, it isn’t nearly as much as with cheaper mats. So, that’s a definite plus in my book. I look at it this way… nothing in life is perfect and it really doesn’t do anyone any good to “sweat the small stuff.”

The only negative aspect I can come up with is the fact that the Manduka Unisex PRO Squared Yoga Mat is only available in black. If you typically like to coordinate your mat with your yoga wardrobe, you might be out of luck. But on the plus side at least it is fairly easy to match colors with black, pinks, blues, reds and green will all look great with black!
